[3 vols,1st edn thus,circa? 1888 to 1897.]  A bright,crisp,clean chromolithograph with a single-line border,and with illustrator's facsimile signature within.Its plain edge surround bright and clean. A glossy striking and original image suitable and ready for mounting and framing.                                      A[lexander] F[rancis] Lydon (1836-1917) born, Newbridge, Ireland, in 1836 - the eldest the son of Patrick Lydon (c.1809- 1883),a Chelsea Pensioner and Relieving Officer of Driffield Union,and his wife Elizabeth Gwillym (nee Houghey, c.1812 - 897). Irish born British watercolour artist,illustrator, engraver and print maker,best known for and specialising in Natural History studies and landscapes.  As a renowned perfectionist,he was expert at creating beautifully coloured prints,and worked for Benjamin Fawcett the printer to whom he was apprenticed at an early age. His work was particularly associated with the publisher Groombridge and Sons in the 1860's - 1870's for whom he illustrated dozens of books and part works ranging from natural history books to illustrating the classics. Nature studies: A History of Fishes of the British Islands (4 vols.,1862-65), Poultry by Hugh Piper (1873), The Smaller British Birds by H. G. & H. B. Adams (1874), British Fresh-water Fishess by Rev. William Houghton (1879) - Lydon collaborated on many works with Reverend Francis Orpen Morris, Parrots in Captivity by W. T. Greene (3 vols., 1884- 87), Fulton's Book of Pigeons by Robert Fulton (1895), Sketche-book of British Birds by R. Bowdler Sharpe (1898), Practical Game-Preserving by W. Carnegie (1906), British Birds' Eggs (1910), Poultry Keeping by Mrs. E. Comyns-Lewer & Sidney H. Lewer (1912) and British Dogs: Describing the History, Characteristics, Breeding, Management and Exhibition of the Various Breeds of dogs Established in Great Britain, by Hugh Dalziel (c.1879/80?)
